Learning that fits the person, not the other way around
At our small learning space in Aoshima, Miyazaki, we offer individual and small-group lessons designed around each learner. Children and adults are welcome, and selected lessons are also available online.
Individual academic support
Our teacher works with elementary, junior high and senior high students to build understanding and confidence, while keeping an eye on the school curriculum when relevant. Lessons can combine core subjects with experiments, practical activities, outdoor experiences and creative projects.
For elementary learners, support can span all standard subjects. For junior high learners, programs may include mathematics, Japanese, English and other subjects. Senior high support focuses particularly on English; please ask about individual subjects.
A welcoming free-school learning space
SARA offers an alternative, supportive place to learn for children who are finding regular school difficult or need a different pace. We work with families and, where appropriate, a child’s enrolled school, so that learning can continue without unnecessary pressure.
Some students have grown comfortable learning again and have later resumed attending their regular school alongside SARA. We celebrate every form of progress without setting school return as the only goal.
Attendance recognition: study at an external facility may count as attendance at a child’s enrolled school when applicable requirements are met and the school decides to recognise it. Recognition is not automatic.
Support for different learning needs
Our teacher holds a special education teaching qualification and has experience in special needs schools, support classes and general classrooms. We adapt learning materials, lesson pace and activities to a child’s strengths and needs. This is educational support, not medical diagnosis or treatment.
Art, design and making things
Explore drawing, painting, photography, video, design, crafts, woodworking and DIY. Learners can develop practical skills as well as confidence through self-expression. Beginners are welcome.
English and conversation
English lessons are tailored to the learner—from foundational skills and everyday conversation to examinations and practical communication for adults. Japanese and English can be used flexibly where appropriate.
Online lessons
Learn from home or from outside Miyazaki. Online lessons are planned around each learner’s needs, sometimes including simple hands-on activities using objects available at home. Ask which subjects and schedules are currently available online.
